Nooksack Valley volleyball defeated Mount Baker 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Nooksack Valley. The Pioneers won the first set 25-15, but Mount Baker won the next set 25-23, before Nooksack Valley won the last two sets 25-22, 25-13.
Taryn Tenkley led the Pioneers with 14 kills and 23 digs, and Candace Rinehart added seven kills. Abbi Steele also had 30 assists for Nooksack Valley. The Pioneers had 81 digs as a team.
"We wanted to make sure we were aggressive on offense tonight," Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview. "Mount Baker has a big block (strength), so I told (the Pioneers) we don't need to hit it above, just around them and pick our spots."
Nooksack Valley's next match is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at home against Lynden. Mount Baker hosts Sehome at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, at home.
