Lynden allows last-minute goal to tie Anacortes


The Lynden girls' soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Anacortes on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Bender Fields.

Jayme Smits scored the Lions' lone goal in the 74th minute off an assist by Elisa Kooiman.

"Elisa had a great pass to Jayme, and she came out of the corner and put the ball in the net," Lynden coach Katie Yoder said in a phone interview. "It was gorgeous."

Anacortes' Lexia Hall evened the match with about 30 seconds to go to secure the tie.

"Both teams played well," Yoder said. "Unfortunately, we let somebody sneak around. ... There was a lot of commotion, and someone go their foot on (the ball)."
