Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County hires new CEO

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDOctober 1, 2013

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County has hired a new CEO - more than a year after the former CEO left for a job in California.

Heather Powell's first day on the job in Whatcom County will be Nov. 5.

She is now the CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Door County in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., which she has led for nearly three years.

Before that, she was the training and organizational development director at Global Corporate College working with Fortune 1000 companies in Wisconsin. She also was the community programs developer for United Way.

“I really am honored that they selected me after their process and very excited to get there and start working with the great staff team they have assembled,” said Powell, adding that she was looking forward to “figuring out how we can even better serve the youth of the Whatcom County communities.”

Powell replaces Lynn J. Templeton, who left in July 2012 after serving as the CEO of the Whatcom County organization for 12 years.

"Good things come to those who wait. We wanted a CEO that was worth waiting for," said Christine Destry, development director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County.

Powell is married to Dan Powell, the new CEO of the Whatcom Family YMCA.
