With his piano chops and his dapper sense of style, vocalist Jon Batiste transcends music genres in a performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

Raised among the sounds and rhythms of New Orleans, Batiste studied jazz and classical piano at the Juilliard School and is music curator at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. He's backed by his high-energy modern jazz ensemble, Stay Human.
