The Sehome and Lynden girls' soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Bender Fields.

Marie Kochman scored the Mariners' lone goal in the 10th minute. Despite holding a 1-0 lead entering half, Sehome out shot the Lions 16-2 in the first half.

"(Sehome) took a lot of shots, but a majority came from a little outside the box," Lynden coach Katie Yoder said in a phone interview. "We stopped them from finding open shots."

Alexa Smiley answered for the Lions in the 61st minute off a cross from Ashlyn Morgan.

"Ashlyn had a cross at the far end of the field, way over in the corner, and Alexa dribbled it right in past some defenders," Yoder said. "It was a perfect cross from Ashlyn."

Lynden's Emily Holt and Peyton Fullner managed a combined 20 saves for the Lions, and Hannah Lauffer had four for Sehome in net.
