Skagit River bridge to close overnight Friday and Sunday

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 27, 2013

BURLINGTON — The Skagit River bridge over Interstate 5 will be closed Friday night, Sept. 27, for 12 hours, the Department of Transportation announced Friday afternoon.

The bridge will be shut down in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Traffic will be detoured through Burlington.

The bridge also will be closed for 12 hours starting 8 p.m. Sunday.

These are among a series of nighttime closures as work continues to finish bridge improvements. A section of the bridge collapsed into the river May 23.

Northbound I-5 traffic will be detoured through Burlington starting at 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday of next week, reopening at 5 the next morning. A southbound lane also might be closed, if needed.

The bridge will be closed for southbound I-5 traffic on Thursday and Friday for the same hours, with traffic detouring through Burlington.
