Despite playing a game coach Jamie Plenkovich called "sloppy at times," the Ferndale football team showed enough in its 28-6 victory over Garfield on Friday, Sept. 20, to move into the top 10 in the Associated Press' Washington High School Football Poll, which was released on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

The Golden Eagles (3-0) find themselves ranked 10th behind unanimous No. 1 Bellevue by a statewide panel of sports writers and editors.

On Friday, Sept. 27, Ferndale will host Burlington-Edison (2-1), which dropped five spots to No. 9 in the Class 2A poll after its 27-7 loss at Mount Vernon last week.

Lynden (3-0) retained the top spot in the 2A poll, receiving 12 of the 14 first-place votes cast. Tumwater, which received the other two, sits eight points behind the Lions, who travel to face Sedro-Woolley on Friday.

Lynden retained the No. 1 ranking by coming back to beat Mount Baker 27-20 last week.

The Mountaineers (2-1), who travel to Cedarcrest on Friday, dropped two spots to No. 8 in the Class 1A rankings. Zillah continued to top the classification, though No. 2 Cascade Christian received one first-place vote.

Lummi (2-1) broke out of a tie with Colton for No. 3 in the Class 1B rankings after the Blackhawks beat Taholah 56-16 and Colton lost to Salmon River (Idaho) 54-8. Lummi hosts Evergreen Lutheran on Friday.

Neah Bay remained atop the 1B rankings, though defending champion Liberty Christian did receive one first-place vote.

Camas continued to be a unanimous No. 1 selection in Class 4A, while Morton White Pass received nine of 10 first-place selections to remain atop the Class 2B rankings.
