THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 25, 2013

After an impressive second-place finish at the South Whidbey Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21, Mount Baker girls' cross country debuted in the Class 1A Washington State Cross Country Coaches' Poll this week at No. 4.

With the Mountaineers moving into the poll, Lynden Christian slipped two spots to sixth in the poll, while Meridian dropped four places to 10th. Nooksack Valley didn't quite make the top 10, but was included among the other teams receiving votes behind new No. 1 Nine Mile Falls Lakeside, which moved ahead of Riverside in the rankings.

The 1A boys' poll also had a new No. 1, with Medical Lake supplanting Lakeside. Meridian held steady at No. 6, but Lynden Christian shifted down one spot to eighth.

There were no changes among the top five in the 2A boys' poll, as the Northwest District maintained its stranglehold. Sehome led the way, followed by No. 2 Lakewood, No. 3 Cedarcrest, No. 4 Squalicum and No. 5 Bellingham.

Sehome also maintained its No. 1 ranking in the 2A girls' poll, ahead of No. 2 Burlington-Edison and No. 3 Bellingham, though Cedarcrest moved up to No. 4 and Lakewood held steady at No. 6.

The Gig Harbor boys and Camas girls continued to top the 4A polls, while the North Central boys and Glacier Peak girls retained their No. 1 rankings in 3A. The 2B/1B polls also were unchanged at the top, with the Tri-Cities Prep boys and St. John-Endicott girls leading the way.
