Meridian can't overcome mistakes, fall to Sedro-Woolley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 25, 2013

The Meridian volleyball team fell to Sedro-Woolley 25-20, 27-25, 25-19 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Meridian High School.

The Trojans were dealt a serious blow early in the first set when they lost starting setter Taylor Brackinreed to a sprained ankle.

"It was a major piece of our game," Meridian coach Shannon Claeys said in a phone interview. "Sarah Hofbauer stepped in and played pretty well."

After dropping the first set, Meridian came back and had game point in the second, but couldn't pull out the win.

"We just started communicating better," Claeys said. "I think the main thing, we missed too many serves. It's really hard to get anything going when we would have a good play and then come back and miss our serve."

Allecia Galindo led Meridian with eight kills and 18 digs. Amber Murphy had 7 kills, and Claire Burkett had 15 digs.
