Olason's hat trick leads Blaine girls' soccer past Nooksack Valley

It took a hat trick and a comeback, but Blaine girls' soccer escaped with a narrow win over Nooksack Valley, 4-3, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Blaine. Olivia Olason had three goals and an assist for the Borderites.

The Pioneers had a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half, but Blaine turned it on for three consecutive goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half.

"(At halftime) I told them we knew the potential they had, and reminded them how they should have played in the first half," Blaine coach Kelly Tuski said in a phone interview.

Nooksack Valley tied it up in the 65th minute when Tori VandeHoef scored on a free kick, but Blaine won the game in the 70th minute when Olason completed her hat trick with the final goal.

Blaine's next game is at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at Anacortes. Nooksack Valley's next match is at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Nooksack Elementary against Mount Baker.
