The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Sedro-Woolley 2-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Meridian.

Lexi McKinnon scored the Trojans' first goal in the 42nd minute off an assist by Haley Belanger. Sedro-Woolley wouldn't wait long to even the match, scoring just a minute later to tie the game at 1-1.

While Meridian had plenty of opportunities, it was a goal by Taylor Lunde off an assist from Janessa Murphy that proved to be the game-winner.

"She beat the player, then had a good look at the goal and it was a pretty clutch game winner," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We looked a lot better today, and we had a lot of good opportunities."
