Bellingham boys' tennis blanks Ferndale

The Bellingham boys' tennis team didn't drop a set in beating Ferndale 7-0 in Northwest Conference play Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Bellingham High School.

Bellingham No. 1 singles player Liam Miszczak beat Ferndale's Rafe Stanage 6-2, 6-2 and the Red Raiders also had singles wins from Charlie Carmichael, Jay Andrews and Greg Johnson, who was playing singles for the first time this season.

"Greg Johnson, I thought he played really well," Bellingham coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview. "I thought he hit the ball cleanly and consistently - thoughtful play."

Bellingham's No. 1 doubles team of Nick Nolan and Connor Thompson earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ferndale's Joshua Mielke and Jacob Sorenson and the Red Raiders also had wins from the doubles teams of Nate Pearsall/Logan Schilder and Chad Cheldelin and Chris Nakatani.

Bellingham (4-1, 4-1) plays at Lynden and Ferndale (0-5, 0-5) hosts Squalicum on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Both NWC matches start at 3:30 p.m.

Doubles: Nick Nolan and Connor Thompson (B) def. Joshua Mielke and Jacob Sorenson (F) 6-1, 6-0; Nate Pearsall and Logan Schilder (B) def. Evan Chapin and Tate Freeman (F) 6-1, 6-1; Chad Cheldelin and Chris Nakatani (B) def. Nikolay Gobelko and Joshua Usery (F) 6-1, 6-0.
