National activist to speak in Bellingham about GMOs

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 25, 2013

BELLINGHAM - A nationally known consumer activist will be in town to speak about the potential health effects of genetically modified organisms.

Jeffrey Smith is the speaker at the event, which starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the lecture room at the downtown Bellingham Public Library, 210 Central Ave.

According to a news release, the reason for Smith's visit is to talk to the public in preparation for the November vote on Initiative 522, which, if approved, would label GMO foods in Washington. The event is being organized and sponsored by Terra Organica, a Bellingham store that voluntarily puts GMO labels on products.

Smith, who has advocated against GMOs, is the author of two books - "Genetic Roulette" and "Seeds of Deception." Smith also was the producer of the 2012 film "Genetic Roulette."
