WCC volleyball blanked at tournament

The Whatcom Community College volleyball team participated in the Clakamas Crossover tournament, Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22, falling in all four of its matches, but preparing for the rest of the season. Jillian Segaline led the Orcas in the two-day tournament with 93 assists.

WCC fell in its first match of the tournament against Chemeketa Community College, 25-22, 25-14, 25-9. In the Orcas' second match of the tournament, WCC made Spokane Community College work for the win, 25-14, 25-18, 17-25, 25-22.

"I was pleased with how my girls responded after the first match, they played with more intensity," WCC coach Angie Short said in a phone interview.

In the third match, WCC took Clark Community College to four sets, but couldn't hold Clark CC off, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22. The Orcas fell to Pierce Community College in their final match of the weekend 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.

WCC opens the regular season against Bellevue College at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Bellevue.
