Lynden Christian holds tough in win over Coupeville

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 21, 2013

The Lynden Christian football team defeated Coupeville 13-7 on Friday, Sept. 20, at Coupeville High School.

The Lyncs got on the board first with a second-quarter, 12-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Roetcisoender to Alex Vander Velden.

"It was a bootleg and we were trying to get a bit of misdirection," Lynden Christian coach Galen Kaemingk said in a phone interview. "We finally made the connection and it was very rewarding."

Lynden Christian wouldn't score again until the final quarter when Jordan Jansen broke a 53-yard run for a touchdown.

"It was an option play, and our quarterback made a good fake and Jordan made a nice run," Kaemingk said.

The rain troubled Lynden Christian's kicking game to the tune of a missed extra point and field goal.

Defensively, though, the Lyncs held Coupeville at bay, only surrendering six points and forcing numerous turnovers.

"It was a very close game that came down to the end," Kaemingk said.

Lynden Christian (2-1) plays Anacortes on Friday, Sept. 27, at Anacortes.
