Lummi football defeated Taholah 57-16 on Friday, Sept. 20, at Taholah.

Devin Cooper started the Blackhawks off with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Dean Williams and quarterback Austin Brockie later connected on a 7-yard pass to put Lummi up by two touchdowns.

"Austin was throwing nice, catchable balls," Lummi coach Jim Sandusky said in a phone interview.

Brockie got the start at quarterback because Lummi's usual starter, Logan Toby, was sidelined with a strained neck.

Brockie capped the 21-point first quarter for the Blackhawks with a 50-yard connection with wideout Charlie Wilson.

"We've had a total of 11 dropped passes through the first two games, so I really think our concentration paid off today," Sandusky said.

The Williams-Brockie tandem added another touchdown in the second quarter, only this one went for 51 yards.

Lummi, which took a 49-0 lead into the fourth quarter, gave up its only points of the game - two 3-yard touchdown runs to Taholah - the entire night.

The Blackhawks (2-1) host Evergreen Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 27.
