Lyncs battle to 1-1 tie with Overlake

The Lynden Christian girls' soccer team tied Overlake 1-1 on Friday, Sept. 20, at Overlake.

Sally Vlas scored the Lyncs' lone goal in the sixth minute off an assist by Haley Hollander.

"Haley got a turnover in the middle of the field, and Sally took a couple touches to the net and chipped it over the keeper's head just under the top cross bar," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview.

Overlake answered back with a goal of its own 11 minutes later to tie the game. While Lynden Christian only scored the one goal, it was not as if it lacked opportunities.

"We did have some great chances, and we had a goal called back," De Ruyter said.

Defensively, the Lyncs held Overlake to just five shots on net, most of which never had a chance at finding the back of the net.

"I was very proud of all four backs," he said. "For the most part, we kept them out of dangerous areas."
