Asks for change in justice system

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 21, 2013

With the nation-wide escalation of our prison population, I hope that Whatcom County will invest in some smart justice. Study after study has shown that diversion programs, drug court, reminder phone calls for court dates and full funding for mental health services have a strong effect on reducing the amount of people incarcerated. Using these techniques, we can ensure that the violent and dangerous criminals are the only ones in jail, while the foolish and mentally ill are dealt with in better, more productive ways. Join me in pushing for smart justice for Whatcom County!
