Squalicum girls' cross country wins meet behind Phipps, Lilleston

Rachel Phipps and Christina Lilleston led the way for Squalicum's girls' cross country team, as they scored 27 points and defeated Anacortes and Lynden on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Whatcom Falls Park. Phipps finished the 4K course in 17 minutes, 56 seconds, good for first place.

"(Phipps) has been working really hard, this was a big personal best time for her," Squalicum coach Katrina Henry said.

Lilleston was only 10 seconds behind her teammate at 18:06, but narrowly defeated Lynden's Grace Sauter's time of 18:07.

Heather Rolph led Anacortes' team with a time of 18:15.

All three schools will attend the South Whidbey Invite at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at South Whidbey.
