The Ferndale girls' soccer team had a hat trick by Jordin Bartel to defeat Mount Baker 4-0 on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Mount Baker.

Bartel got the Golden Eagles on the board in the second minute of play off a Tina Slaughter assist. Bartel would score her second and third goals before the end of the first half.

"I think yesterday (Wednesday), Jordin had a breakthrough, and I've been waiting for that day to come," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "It made all the difference in the world."

Gonzalez said Bartel finally began to turn what he called "frustration into fascination," loosening her up and allowing her to reach her potential.

"I am really proud of her to be in the right state of mind," Gonzalez said.

Christiana Salinas scored Ferndale's final goal in the 80th minute, and the Golden Eagles' keeper, Linsey Honeycutt, didn't have to record a single save in the win.
