The Nooksack Valley volleyball team defeated Meridian 20-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-18 on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Nooksack Valley.

Despite losing the first set, the Pioneers composed themselves and came back to win the final three.

"We just played really tentative," Nooksack Valley coach Katie Emmons said in a phone interview. "I felt like we were second guessing ourselves."

Taryn Tenkley led Nooksack Valley with 14 kills, and Lindsay Hayes had 11 of her own. Abbi Steele had 30 assists.

"We recovered really well, and we just played aggressive in the last three sets," Emmons said.

Amber Murphy led Meridian with eight kills.
