City parks to be busy Saturday with racers in Bellingham Traverse

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 19, 2013

BELLINGHAM - Lake Padden and Marine Park are among the areas that will be busy this weekend with competitors in the 12th annual Bellingham Traverse.

The race starts at noon Saturday, Sept. 21, downtown at Depot Market Square, then makes its way through Boulevard Park, Fairhaven, Padden, around Lake Samish, Marine Park and ends at Boundary Bay Brewery. Along the way, competitors will run, bike and paddle.

The biggest congestion is expected along Lake Padden trails from 12:30 to 2 p.m. when mountain bikers use them. Road bikers will be along Lake Samish roads from 1 to 3 p.m.; drivers should expect to see them. Marine Park will be busy from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for kayak launching of the race. Organizers ask people to avoid these areas if possible. If you plan to be a spectator, they ask you walk or bike to the areas.
