Bellingham Red Raiders girls' swimming preview capsule

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 19, 2013

Coach: Jeff Anderson

Last year: Finished third in the Northwest Conference standings with a 5-2 record. ... Placed 15th with 61 points during the Class 2A State Swimming and Diving Championships.

Swimmers to watch: Maddie Gillman (sr.); Ellie Kindlund (sr.); Anna McNabb (jr.); Yvonne Dubois (sr.); Sage Ince (sr.); Grace Dahl (jr.); Margot Lewis (so.)

Outlook: Each of the three years Bellingham coach Jeff Anderson has led the Red Raiders swimming program, he's witnessed steady growth in team size. The results have improved as well. "The Lady Raiders, as I call them, are a great bunch of girls to coach," Anderson wrote in an email. "We are 31 strong - 10 seniors, five juniors, six sophomores and 10 freshmen. We also have four divers and a new dive coach, Danika Troupe." Bellingham, which placed 15th in state last season, wants to crack the top 10 this year. It certainly has a strong enough group, led by a number of upperclassmen. Maddie Gillman, who finished second in state in both the 200 and 500 freestyle a year ago, returns and will be chasing a state title this year. Senior diver Ellie Kindlund has finished top six in state two years in a row and junior Anna McNabb qualified for state in the 200 free. "Our biggest key for building momentum is continuous dedication and effort," Anderson wrote. He's seen plenty of that so far.
