The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated Lynden 2-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Meridian High School.

The Trojans' Payton Lunde scored the first goal of the game in the 18th minute off an assist by Ryley Zapien. Despite heading into the half with a 1-0 lead after controlling the first half, Meridian didn't play nearly as crisp in the second half.

"In the second half, it was just kind of a mess," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "We had a ton of shots, and some really good looks, we just weren't able to put any in the back of the net."

Lynden's Peyton Fullner tied the game, 1-1, in the 71st minute, but Taylor Lunde answered back eight minutes later to score an unassisted, winning goal for the Trojans.

"The girls stuck with it. ... We were playing on our heels, but we found a way to win," Ames said.
