The Sehome girls' soccer defeated Lynden Christian 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Lynden Christian.

Kate Peterson scored the Mariners' first goal in the 18th minute off an assist from Emily Webster. Devin Grahn added another goal six minutes later off a feed from Peterson to give Sehome a quick 2-0 lead.

"We got off to a rough start, and Sehome came out and utilized their speed," Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "We didn't do a very good job shutting down their opportunities."

Peterson rounded out Sehome's day with another goal in the 34th minute off Webster's second assist. As it was, though, Lynden Christian entered the second half playing much better, with Sally Vlas scoring the Lyncs' lone goal in the 71st minute.

"I think in the second half, we made a statement and really matched them punch for punch," De Ruyter said. "I was proud of the girls, and they really responded well."
