The Ferndale girls' soccer team defeated Anacortes 4-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Ferndale High School.

Jordin Bartel scored the Golden Eagles' opening goal in the second minute of play off an assist by Katelyn Neher.

"She's a brilliant player," Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "She shines all the time. She is always a part of making stuff happen, and is just a fantastic player."

Jillian Monson scored Ferndale's second goal in the 29th minute off Neher's second assist of the game. Ali Gonzalez and Jazzy Ahrens rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.

Defensively, Ferndale held Anacortes to only seven shots on goal while containing a very strong Anacortes team.

"Anacortes has some great talent on that team," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez was particularly pleased with how Carly Bannerman and Tina Slaughter played together defensively.

"They are a dynamic duo," he said. "There is a lot to learn from this game, and we are excited for the next one."
