Whatcom Peace & Justice to honor Ellen Murphy on Saturday

BELLINGHAM -The Whatcom Peace & Justice Center will honor longtime local activist Ellen Murphy during its marking of the International Day of Peace this weekend.

The Kulshan Chorus will be on hand Saturday, Sept. 21, as Murphy is given the Howard Harris Lifetime Peacemaker Award.

Ruben Garcia, director of a shelter on the Texas/Mexico border for economic and political refugees from Mexico and Central America, will be the keynote speaker. Janet Ott will emcee.

A peace march will leave Maritime Heritage Park about 5:30 p.m. and go the half mile to First Congregational Church of Bellingham, 2401 Cornwall Ave., for the event, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
