PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Blaine Borderites

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

BLAINE

BORDERITES

Coach: Carey Bacon

Last year: Finished ninth at the Northwest Conference Championships. Placed fifth at the Class 1A Tri-District meet. Placed eighth at the 1A State Championships and had two runners place in the top 20.

Returning state participants: Parker Morris (so.)

Others to watch: Alex Dodge (jr.), Spenser Dodge (so.)

Outlook: Blaine returns only one runner off the team it took to state last year, due to graduation and attrition, so the Borderites likely will lean heavily on Morris, who finished among the top 100 at state as a freshman. The Dodge brothers are the only other experienced runners on a roster that goes seven deep and does not have a senior. "We're looking at how to improve and how to work together as a team to get better," Bacon said in a phone interview. "We're looking at the end of the year. A lot of these guys don't have the background, so right now our focus is more on conditioning and getting into shape than it is being at the top of our game."
