THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

Coach: Katrina Henry

Last year: Finished second at the Northwest Conference Championships. Placed second at the Class 2A Northwest District meet. Placed third at the 2A State Championships and had two runners place in the top 20 at the 2A State Championships, including state champion Patrick Gibson.

Returning state participants: Chris Fredlund (sr.), Nick Gallaher (sr.), Dillon Rinauro (jr.), Jared Radtke (sr.), North Bennett (sr.)

Others to watch: Malachi Arnold (fr.), Arne Peterson (sr.)

Outlook: The Storm finds itself ranked in the same No. 3 spot in the coaches' poll as it finished at state last year, despite the loss of top runner and a two-time state champion. The reason is Squalicum returns five other state participants, led by Fredlund (11th at state) and Gallaher (27th). "I think we're going to have a really strong team, even though we lost Patrick," Henry said in a phone interview. "We have guys that are willing to step and already have started to step up in workouts and in a leadership role. The team is really coming together, and the atmosphere is terrific - everybody is motivated to work hard."
