PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Ferndale Golden Eagles

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

FERNDALE

GOLDEN EAGLES

Coach: Nick Carlson

Last year: Finished seventh at the Northwest Conference Championships. Finished sixth at the Class 3A Northwest District meet and had three runners advance to state. Had one runner place in the top 20 the 3A State Championships.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Kaleb Palmby (sr.), Roberto Aguilera (so.), Matthew Steiber (so.), Wesley Cruse (jr.), Wiley Wright (sr.)

Outlook: With the graduation of all three runners who made it to state last year, the top of Ferndale's lineup will look very different this year. Carlson said he sees Palmby and Aguilera sharing the top two spots and doing well. "We're pretty young after we lost our four hot shots from last year, but the younger guys are stepping up and coming together," Carlson said. "Roberto is running really well and already ran a minute faster than his PR from last year. He's really going to have a great year. Kaleb had a little bit of a back issue, but we're looking for those two to switch off one and two, and we have Matt, Wesley and Wiley to round out our top five. ... This is a very committed group that I think will give us some success."
