PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Nooksack Valley Pioneers

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

NOOKSACK VALLEY

PIONEERS

Coach: Colin Buckley

Last year: Finished 11th at the Northwest Conference Championships. Finished 15th at the Class 1A Tri-District meet.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Conner Jones (so.), Calvin Ledet (jr.), Taylor Gardner (jr.)

Outlook: Buckley is excited about a couple of new additions he gets from his time at Mount Baker with the addition of Ledet, who Buckley knew when the junior was running in middle school, and assistant coach Jay Sloane, who used to coach the Mountaineers along with Buckley. But besides those two and top two runners Jones and Gardner, there are a lot of unknowns this year. "We need to do a lot of building," Buckley said. "We have a few guys that are new to cross country, so we're going to do a lot of teaching guys to race. It's an exciting challenge. I think Conner and Calvin have a shot to get through to state, especially with the extra berth out of our tri-district."
