PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Mount Baker Mountaineers

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

MOUNT BAKER

MOUNTAINEERS

Coach: Tyler Mitchell

Last year: Finished 10th at the Northwest Conference Championships. Finished 10th at the Class 1A Tri-District meet and had two runners advance to state. Had Dillon Quintana win the individual title at the Class 1A State Championships.

Returning state participants: Shelby Miles (sr.)

Others to watch: Ishmael Villaluz (sr.), Jacob Koranda (sr.), Josh Meyer (sr.), Mitchell Pelzer (fr.)

Outlook: Miles placed 35th at state last year, and Mitchell said he expects the rest of the team behind him to be strong in his first year leading the boys' program. "I see good things from this group. Last year I was coaching junior high cross country, and this season I'm excited to work with these kids at the high school level," Mitchell said. "It's a good group of kids and they're training well." Koranda joins Miles as a team captain, while Pelzer should give the Mountaineers a boost in his first season with the program. "With Shelby and Jacob leading the way, they'll wrangle the troops and hopefully score us some good points," Mitchell said.
