PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Five runners to watch

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 17, 2013

BRIAN CHMELIK

School: Bellingham

Year: Senior

Chmelik has been to state his first three years running for the Red Raiders, and last season placed 22nd to help the team place second overall. He and Simon Maguire should lead the top team in preseason rankings.

CHRIS FREDLUND

School: Squalicum

Year: Senior

Fredlund also has been to state his first three years with the Storm, placing 11th last year and helping the Storm finish third. He should take the reigns from the graduated Patrick Gibson.

NATHAN LETAVEC

School: Sehome

Year: Senior

Sehome will lean heavily on LeTavec, who is one of two returners from last year's state-championship team. He appears ready to have a big season along with Kirby Overman.

COLLIN MAGNUSSON

School: Meridian

Year: Junior

Mangusson is looking for his third trip to state. The Trojans believe he, David Anderson and Davis Phillips make up a trio that can compete with anyone in the NWC and gives them a shot to make the podium.

SHELBY MILES

School: Mount Baker

Year: Senior

Miles placed 35th in his first trip to state last year. The Mountaineers will look to him and Jacob Koranda to lead a young but talented group, as Mount Baker tries to qualify as a team this year.
