Famed fishing rod-maker gives program at TU meeting

September 15, 2013

Well-known rod-maker Gary Loomis will give a program at the Sept. 25 meeting of Trout Unlimited’s Olympia chapter.

During his presentation, titled “What Makes the Ultimate Fishing Rod?”, Loomis will talk about the three critical components needed to manufacture optimum fishing rod blanks: design, machinery and materials.

Beginning in 1974, Loomis built thousands of fishing and fly rods, making his company, G. Loomis, a leader in the industry. Though he sold the company in 1997, Loomis remains active in fishing conservation groups. He also has been inducted into the International Game Fish Association’s hall of fame.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at North Olympia Fire Station, 5046 Boston Harbor Road NE, Olympia. The public is welcome to attend.
