The Meridian girls' soccer team defeated La Conner 9-0 on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Meridian.
Lexi McKinnon led the Trojans with a hat trick, and Haley Belanger had two goals of her own.
"The last two games have been really spread out, with a lot of players scoring goals, and a lot of players getting assists," Meridian coach Andrea Ames said in a phone interview. "A lot of versatile players and good team play have been able to get a lot of different people opportunities."
The Trojans wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring two goals in the first 19 minutes. And while the score reflected a La Conner team that struggled defensively, Ames said its goalkeeper was one of the best she has seen.
"She kept the game closer than it probably would have been," Ames said.
Meridian really spread the game out in the second half, scoring five goals over the final 12 minutes of play.
The Trojans host Lynden Tuesday, Sept. 17, in a Northwest Conference match.
