Mount Baker's girls' soccer team exploded for five second-half goals to beat Nooksack Valley 6-0 on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Mount Baker.
India Hines scored twice in the span of two minutes off assists from Jessica Mata to give the Mountaineers a four-goal advantage in the second half.
"They had some good team work," Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interview. "They were really pressuring the ball in the second half."
One of Mount Baker's goals heading into this game was to put a lot of pressure on Nooksack's defense, something Jorgensen felt his team did well.
"In the second half, there was lots of pressure, good crosses and plenty of shots," he said. "We are trying to get 20 shots a game, and we got 23."
Defensively, Jorgensen was pleased with the play of one person in particular: Nicole Boardman.
"She had a terrific game as a defensive mid," he said, "winning balls in the air and constantly putting pressure on the ball."
Mount Baker host Bellingham Tuesday, Sept. 17, in a Northwest Conference match.
