Bellingham and Sehome girls' soccer play to a tie

The Bellingham and Sehome girls' soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie during a non-league matchup Saturday, Sept. 14, at Orca Field on Whatcom Community College's campus.

Red Raiders' Mia Hodges scored off an assist from Morgan Jones in the 55th minute, and Sehome's Marie Kochman equalized in the 70th minute off a corner kick.

"It was a game where we won a lot of balls in the air, and I think our three girls in the middle, Hattie (North), Mia and Kendra (Steele), really did a good job of winning balls," Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview.

Bellingham keeper Hannah Jacobus made one save, while the Mariners only put two shots on goal. Sehome keeper Hannah Lauffer saved five of the Red Raiders' six shots.

Bellingham opens league play at Mount Baker at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, while Sehome travels to Lynden Christian for its first NWC contest at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
