People who attend the Whatcom SkillShare Faire - 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21-22, 2013 at Ferndale's Hovander Homestead Park - can participate in hands-on demonstrations and workshops featuring old-time and newfangled skills for self-reliance.

People who attend the Whatcom SkillShare Faire - 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Ferndale's Hovander Homestead Park - can participate in hands-on demonstrations and workshops featuring old-time and newfangled skills for self-reliance.

Visitors can learn about scything, beekeeping, brewing, basket-making, milling, storytelling and even sock-darning. They also can enjoy local roots music and taste local brews in the beer garden.

Admission: $8, with discounts for the weekend for people who bike, carpool or walk to the event; and for people younger than 10 or older than 70. Details: whatcomskillsharefaire.org.
