Sumas Advent Christian Church celebrates centennial

SUMAS - Sumas Advent Christian Church, 125 Front St., will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

The church also will host a potluck dinner after the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, Sept. 22.

The church has a new display cabinet showcasing its history, and a new back entrance that improves the church's fellowship hall. Church programs include a free clothing bank, distribution of paper products for the needy, a men's breakfast, women's ministries and a youth group.

The church's history traces back to a preaching station in the late 1880s, eventually becoming a Sunday school and then an organized church.
