PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Lynden Lions

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

LYNDEN

LIONS

Coach: Kevin Richins

Last year: Did not field a full team at the Northwest Conference Championships. Placed 10th at the Class 2A Northwest District meet.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Grace Sauter (so.), Alex Schulhauser (jr.), Cynthia Anker (sr.)

Outlook: In his first year after taking over for his mentors and longtime Lynden coaches Bob and Kris Carson, Richins is looking to build the program from the ground up. "What I really want is for us to have success by everybody improving, making sure from top to bottom we're feeling connected and making sure we give our very best out on the course," Richins said in a phone interview. The Lions will look to Sauter to be a steady runner, while Schulhauser is a bit of a talented unknown in her first year with the program. Anker should provide the team with strong leadership, Richins said.
