After strong first half, Bellingham falls at Burlington

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

Bellingham kept things close for the first 24 minutes, but once Burlington-Edison's Jae Evans got running, the Red Raiders simply had no answer.

Evans scored a 65-yard touchdown on the Tigers' first possession of the second half to spur Burlington to a 42-21 Class 2A/3A Northwest Conference victory.

"We came out strong in the first half," Bellingham coach Steve Wilson said. "Last week we couldn't tackle anybody. This week we just couldn't tackle No. 7. "

Evans finished with 248 yards rushing and five TDs.

Bellingham (0-2, 0-1 NWC 2A/3A), which was beat 48-0 by Mount Baker in Week 1, trailed by only one point, 14-13, at the end of the first half.

The Red Raiders were led by Tanner Aliff, who rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and Melvin Deal, who had 129 yards and one TD on the ground.
