Sehome sweeps Ferndale

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

The Sehome boys' tennis team swept Ferndale 7-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Friday, Sept. 13.

"Our boys competed," Ferndale coach Rudy Vendiola said in a phone interview. "They played well and they did improve in the second set. We registered some scores against a tough Sehome squad, but we have some areas of improvement - some areas we need to work on."

Vendiola said Joshua Mielke and Colton Young were closer to Aaron Goldfogle and Jeremy Delisle than their 6-1, 6-0 score would indicate with multiple deuce counts during the No. 1 doubles match. Liam Dickman and Fulgencio Schonborn also played Darrin Ma and Henry Han tight at No. 3 doubles, falling 6-4, 6-4.

Brady Anderson, Max Shmotolokha, Reece Gilbert and Sam Humphreys won their singles matches for Sehome (1-0, 1-0 NWC), while Brenden Sriesen and John Vaughan won at No. 2 doubles.

Ferndale (0-2, 0-2) next hosts Anacortes on Wednesday, Sept. 18, while the Mariners travel to Bellingham on Monday, Sept. 16.
