THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

Coach: Colin Buckley

Last year: Finished eighth at the Northwest Conference Championships. Finished ninth at the Class 1A Tri-District meet and had one runner advance to state.

Returning state participants: Amy Murphy (so.)

Others to watch: Chloe Gardner (sr.), Kelly Jackson (sr.), Melanie Brown (sr.), Jessica Jose (so.)

Outlook: Nooksack Valley receives a big boost with the return of Gardner, who did not run last year after finishing 52nd at state as a sophomore, and Brown, who missed most of last season with injury after finishing 54th at state as a sophomore. Those two, along with Murphy, who placed 54th last year, give the Pioneers a strong core. "We could be really good," Buckley said in a phone interview. "The top three girls are sure going to be supper tough. They're going to be fun to watch race this season. Having Chloe back, in terms of experience, really helps. She should be able to teach Amy, who is young but very talented, even more about racing."
