PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Squalicum Storm

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

SQUALICUM

STORM

Coach: Katrina Henry

Last year: Finished ninth at the Northwest Conference Championships. Placed sixth at the Class 2A Northwest District meet and had one runner advance to state. Had one runner place in the top 20 at 2A State Championships.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Rachel Phipps (sr.), Hailey Linville (so.), Kristin Smith (sr.)

Outlook: For the first time in her four years at Squalicum, Henry has a little bit of a cushion to work with, as she had 11 runners turn out with a couple of new seniors and freshmen adding to the team's numbers. "The team has been small the last three years," Henry said in a phone interview. "Having more runners is the biggest thing I'm excited about - that and how hard they're working. A bunch of them are new, so to come out and run and be excited to run hard and learn is exciting. I think we have some good potential on the girls' side." Henry said she will lean heavily on experienced senior leaders Phipps and Smith to help the newcomers along.
