PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Blaine Borderites

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

BLAINE

BORDERITES

Coach: Carey Bacon

Last year: Did not field a full team at the Northwest Conference Championships. Did not have enough runners to place at the Class 1A Tri-District meet.

Returning state participants: None

Others to watch: Hillary Kiele (jr.), Hannah Kean (so.), Kieya Villars (jr.)

Outlook: Blaine returns both runners it had on the team last year, and Bacon said he is interested to see if Kiele has what it takes to make a run at becoming a state-level runner. Villars joins from the track team, where she was a strong hurdler last spring. Blaine only goes five deep, so getting everybody in the right shape to compete is the priority now. "I think both the boys' and girls' teams are in the same position in terms of looking ahead and taking little steps to get there," Bacon said. "We can't be too focused on any one target goal. We're trying to get ready and get competitive in our own goals."
