PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Bellingham Red Raiders

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 14, 2013

BELLINGHAM

RED RAIDERS

Coach: Bill McClement

Last year: Finished second at the Northwest Conference Championships. Placed second at the Class 2A Northwest District meet. Placed second at the 2A State Championships.

Returning state participants: Leah Veldhuisen (jr.), Maya Norton (sr.), Nicole Burbank (sr.), Clara Prentiss (sr.)

Others to watch: Abby Walker (jr.), Sarah Rubin (sr.), Sierra Bishop (sr.), Ivy Denham-Conroy (so.), Ella Denham-Conroy (so.), Julia Latimer (jr.), Sophia Laws (so.), Emma Much (so.), Madeline Prentiss (fr.), Maura Schaeffer (jr.), Makayla Stahl (so.)

Outlook: With the return of Walker, who would have run at state if not for sickness the night before the meet, Bellingham is essentially returning five state-level runners from last year. Veldhuisen, Norton and Burbank all placed in the top 42 at state. The addition of Bishop, who ran track for Bellingham last spring, helps add to the team's depth. Bellingham is ranked third in Class 2A in the latest state coaches' poll. "This is a team with some competitive experience that is very supportive of each other," McClement said.
