Top runners expected at fourth annual Sehome Invitational

Many of the top high school cross country teams in the region will once again get together for an early-season showdown on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Sehome Invitational on the two-mile course at Civic Stadium.

Runners will be broken down into flights by their class in school, starting with the freshmen girls at 10:30 a.m. to tackle a course that utilizes the Civic Stadium track, as well as the trails surrounding the stadium.

Admission is free to the meet, which has many good areas for viewing.

Freshmen girls to watch for include Lakeside's Sophie Cantine, Sehome's Ruby Watson and Ellie Rowan-Arnett, Burlington-Edison's Petra Armstrong and Oak Harbor's Laura Rodeheffer. Top freshmen boys are expected to include Shorewood's Cameron Sanders and Chris Gerbino, Sehom's Matt Karcher, Bryce Johnsen and Logan Franey and Squalicum's Malachi Arnold.

Sophomore girls expected to shine include Sehome's Zanna Sullivan, Rebekah Oviatt, Dana Ringler and Aili Emory and Ferndale's Jillian Anderson. Sophomore boys to watch include Sehome's Riley Allsop and Colton Johnsen, Bellingham's Sam Gillman, Oak Harbor's Logan Clark and Marysville-Pilchuck's Josh Bevan.

Top junior girls include Sehome's Jessa Clark and two-time state champion Emily Pittis, Lakeside's Andrea Masterson, Inglemoor's Amber Rose, Oak Harbor's Jonalynn Horn and Bellingham's Leah Veldhuisen and Abby Walker.

Junior boys expected to lead the way include: Sehome's Kirby Overman, Oak Harbor's John Rodeheffer, Meridian's Collin Magnusson, Terry Fox's Isaac Wadhwani and Meadowdale's Dominic Giordano.

Senior girls to watch include Burlington-Edison's RaynJoy Norton, Lakeside's Rebecca Delacruz-Gunderson, Kingston's Annie Roberts, Oak Harbor's Alexandra Laiblin and Meridian's McKenzie Roque.

Top senior boys include: Squalicum's Chris Fredlund, Terry Fox's Nathan Wadhwani, Bellingham's Brian Chmelik and Simon Maguire, Oak Harbor's Clayton Richardson, Kamiak's Jerry Behrens and Mount Vernon's Alex Mitchell.

1:25 p.m.: Senior Boys

1:50 p.m.: Open Community Race ($10 entry fee)
