The Bellingham Red Raiders' boys' tennis team defeated Burlington-Edison 7-0 on Friday, Sept. 13, at Burlington-Edison.
"I thought the boys were practicing really well, and sometimes you are not sure until you play somebody," Bellingham coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview. "But they showed me they were really ready to go."
Despite winning each match in straight sets, the Red Raiders did have to fight what Chronister deemed was a pretty tough, resilient Burlington-Edison squad.
"A lot of matches, they are closer than the score looks," he said. "We just won the games."
Chronister was particularly pleased with what he saw from his No. 2 doubles pairing of Chad Cheldelian and Chris Nakatani, who defeated Ryan Edson and Jake Field 6-1, 6-1.
"I thought that was a close matchup," he said. "Chad and Chris played really smart. ... If you watched the match, it looked neck and neck, they just won most of the (games)."
Bellingham (1-0) hosts Sehome on Monday, Sept. 16.
