The nonprofit Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement has scheduled free community workshops in October about making end-of-life choices.
Participants learn why advance care planning is important; how to choose someone to be their durable power of attorney for health care; how to talk to loved ones and doctors about their preferences for end-of-life care; and how to complete advance directive paperwork.
Workshop dates and locations are:
-- Wednesday, Oct. 2, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Spring Creek Retirement & Assisted Living, 223 E. Bakerview Road, just east of Meridian Street.
-- Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Spring Creek Retirement & Assisted Living.
-- Monday, Oct. 14, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Sumas Senior Activity Center, 461 Second St.
-- Friday, Oct. 18, 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Deming Public Library, 5044 Mount Baker Highway.
-- Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Health and Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway, near the main campus of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
-- Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at WECU Community Education Center, 511 E. Holly St., Bellingham.
