Girder deliveries to cause delays Monday on Old Fairhaven Parkway in Bellingham

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDSeptember 13, 2013

BELLINGHAM - Drivers on Old Fairhaven Parkway can expect delays starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, as 50-foot girders arrive at the site of bridge construction near 20th Street.

The girder delivery was rescheduled from Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Traffic will be stopped only when each girder arrives, about one every half-hour from 8 a.m. until about noon. Unloading each girder is expected to take no more than two minutes, so traffic delays should be brief.

Crews are building the bridge so the city can reroute Padden Creek out of a 2,200-foot tunnel and into a natural channel. The creek improvements are expected in 2015.
